Autumn Winter 2019/20
We are right at the top, on the very summit of the Alps, the Andes, in the Himalaya. It is barren, exposed and forbidding. The desire for protection and warmth is omnipresent, the hat tradition therefore rich in diversity. The pieces that we find there have sometimes been adapted to their surroundings, or are in complete contrast. Their shapes come to a conical point. The materials are strong, the surface hairy. Fabrics that are particularly warming, repel water and weather. There is wool, loden, lambskin everywhere. Colourful stripes of woollen braids – meters of it stitched together wind their way around the hat crown. This follows on from the alpine tradition of rag rug making. And a few hats are downright frightening: with a mountain ghost grimace.
The whole collection is of course totally urban.
