The legendary Mühlbauer hat Karl is a narrow brimmed gentleman’s shape, known as a trilby. Trilby is the name of the heroine in a novelette by the British author George du Maurier (around 1890), who wore a hat of this shape. Here Karl is made of hair felt. Hair felt is made of 100% rabbit hair and counts as one of the best felt qualities available. The hat is decorated with a silk grosgrain ribbon. On the left side of the hat the ribbon’s ends are tied into a special bow, unique to Mühlbauer - the "Mühlbauer Bow". Karl is worn by men and women. This hat’s most famous advocate is Brad Pitt.
